Trouble for Israel: Abbas seeks reconciliation of Palestine.

Bouncing between Saudi Arabia and Egypt, Mahmoud Abbas has been spending his recent days working on a peace initiative to end one of the volatile stalemates in the Middle East: that between Hamas and Fatah.
Until recently, Abbas has said he would not negotiate with Hamas without preconditions. But he threw that goal away, as he works to reunite the Gaza Strip (under Hamas control) with his own West Bank.
The quest for a unity government looks great for Palestine, but not as much for Israel...or the US, as Bush has spent time attempting to isolate Hamas as a terrorist group not to be worked with or trusted on an international level.
Hamas does not recognize the state of Israel, and is the reason for almost daily mortar attacks on the nation.
The [somewhat negligible] success of their suicide missions has left Abbas in a weaked position, and this seems to be a move to re-align himself as the dominant leader of the Palestinian territories.

We'll see what happens.
