News for the Poor: Bus line to offer Boston to NYC for a buck
Bus fare from Boston to New York City could cost as little as a dollar next month as a new service called BoltBus gets rolling.
Greyhound Lines is partnering with Peter Pan Bus Lines to form BoltBus, which will offer some lucky travelers fares as low as $1.
BoltBus service from New York to Washington, D.C., kicks off March 27, but the service will connect Boston and Manhattan sometime in April, according to Greyhound spokesman Dustin Clark.
Fares will range from $1 to “market value,” about $25 for the New York to D.C. trip.
“But there will be some $1 fares available for each scheduled trip,” said Clark.
BoltBus could spark a bus fare war with the troubled Fung Wah Chinatown-to-Chinatown service.
The new bus service promises comfortable seats, 3 inches of extra leg room per seat, free WiFi and power outlets.
“BoltBus is an extreme value, but it’s also all about safety,” said Clark, in a likely jab at the Fung Wah service, which has been involved in several safety-related incidents.
Cheap BoltBus tickets will only be available online at www.boltbus.com in advance and tickets for the the Boston service are not yet available. Walkup tickets will be full price. All tickets are nonrefundable.
