AMC names 10 best fall hikes in Whites

The Appalachian Mountain Club has a new online guide that lists recommendations for top fall foliage hikes in the White Mountains. You can download free maps and trail descriptions for the hikes at outdoors.org/lodging/fallguide.cfm. Some recommendations:

Lost Pond: An easy hike on the Appalachian Trail to Lost Pond, which includes views across to the east face of Mount Washington.

Zealand Falls: A moderate hike past beaver ponds and meadows to the scenic falls and the AMC's Zealand Falls Hut.

Elephant Head: A short, easy climb to a ledge overlooking a view of Crawford Notch and AMC's Highland Center.

Arethusa-Ripley Falls: An easy-to-moderate hike to Arethusa Falls and Ripley Falls, New Hampshire's two highest waterfalls.
